Summary:
We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic person with a passion for the arts to carry out Public Art/Gallery Inspections, Maintenance & Repair, assist with outdoor installations and take on some day-to-day administrative duties for the Permanent Art Collection.
The Senior Art Technician will also carry out some administrative duties for exhibits in the Tointon Gallery for the Visual Arts and assist with layout of installations and lighting for up to 12 art exhibits per year.
Other responsibilities may include supporting on-going Public Art programs such as Community Outreach and Paint the Town projects.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Communicate orally and in writing effectively with artists, citizens, students, committee members and other department employees.
Operate small equipment such as power tools, shop equipment, lifts, etc.
Experience driving larger equipment including fork lift, loader, skid steer, etc.
is desired but not required.
Valid Colorado drivers license and good driving record.
Have working knowledge of care for all medias of art.
Understand and appreciate cultural arts.
Be proficient with Microsoft office products and basic knowledge of Adobe Suites.
Display accuracy and timeliness in performing assigned duties/ability to meet deadlines.
Apply safe work practices at all times such as:
proper lifting technique, etc.
Show utmost care when storing and displaying, hauling and protecting artwork.
Work in a team environment and work alone when necessary.
Apply creative aptitude with colors, space and problem solving.
Display attention to detail regarding artistic presentation.
Essential Functions:
1 years or more experience with the following:
Inspect 2-D and 3-D artwork and recommend Maintenance & Repair needs.
Solicit professionals to repair artwork when needed and be onsite to assist.
Properly clean artwork as required and perform minor repair.
Assist artists with loading and unloading artwork and with installations as needed.
Maintain proper care/storage of artworks delivered and displayed in the Permanent Art Collection.
Admin tasks such as organizing schedules and documenting work completed on Xcel data sheet and creating presentations.
Assist Gallery Technicians as needed.
Esthetically plan layout, hang, light and break down gallery exhibits.
Move, arrange, assemble, dismantle and maintain exhibit equipment including lighting, sound, and video equipment, pedestals and display materials.
Hosting receptions and completing sales of artwork in the Gallery.
Admin tasks such as reviewing bids, sending agreements, filing documents.
Work with marketing staff to promote exhibits via social media posts and E-Mail blast.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
50% office environment and other assigned duties including assisting with Art Maintenance & Repair, Installations and Gallery exhibits as needed.
Flexible working hours as assigned by Public Art Coordinator; may need to work weekdays, weekends, evenings and possibly some holidays Must be able to work in varying conditions, including but not limited to, inclement weather and at heights in excess of 6 feet off the floor and may be exposed to dust, fumes and chemicals.
Manual dexterity enough to complete daily work such as artwork repair, hand tools, drive and operate motor vehicles; manual dexterity to operate computer.
Vision to operate a variety of equipment at work sites.
Strength and stamina to sit and stand for long periods.
Flexibility to bend, twist, kneel and reach out to load and unload equipment and supplies and maintain & repair artwork at varied heights Strength and stamina to move objects 20 - 75 pounds long distances and to work from a ladder.
Conditions of Employment:
